Recently, Numis Network announced its support of an amazing organization called World Vision. Founded in 1950 by Robert Pierce, the organization began its child sponsorship program in order to help hundreds of thousands of orphans following the Korean War. Since then, World Vision has initiated child sponsorship programs around the globe and assists needy children with food, education, medical care, and job training.
In 1970, the organization formed an emergency relief division in order to try to alleviate poverty by concentrating on local community needs like water, sanitation, education, and income generation. World Vision also works with international governments and businesses to help stem the growing problems of child labor, children fighting in armed conflicts, and the sexual exploitation of women and children.
Today, World Vision is one of a few international organizations capable of immediately providing assistance to victims of natural disasters. The group is one of the great unsung heroes of the devastating 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010, leveling the country's capital, Port-au-Prince. A year and a half later, World Vision is still helping to provide more than a million Haitians with life's basic necessities.
If you are interested in contributing to this wonderful organization or would like to sponsor a child in need anywhere around the world, please visit their website at www.WorldVision.org. For a little more than $1 a day, you can help give a child access to life-saving basics such as clean water, nutritious food, education, and medical care.
It's hard to imagine what the people of Haiti must endure on a daily basis. We take for granted how good we have it here in the U.S. Even the poorest among us is better off here than the average citizen of Haiti. Groups like WVI make it possible for small efforts made by many people to make a big difference.
