One of the most inspiring groups of people that we’ve had the pleasure of working with here at Numis Network is the Tampa Generals Quad Rugby team. For those of you unfamiliar with the sport, quad rugby is a team sport created specifically for athletes with disabilities. The game is played on a hardwood basketball court and is perhaps best described as an amalgamation of hockey, rugby, and wheelchair basketball. It is the fastest growing wheelchair oriented sport in the world.
The Tampa Generals are one of the longest running Quad Rugby teams in the United States. Having won 3 national titles since 1986, the Generals have produced numerous Paralympians to represent the US at the Paralympic Games which are held in conjunction with the Summer Olympics.
The team has helped many people rediscover a competitive outlet that they thought they had lost due to their disabilities. The positive influence of this challenging sport transfers into the players’ everyday lives. The Tampa Generals serve as an inspiration by reminding everyone that through perseverance and hard work we can overcome life’s challenges.
The Tampa Generals are currently in their post-season after finishing 4th at the Division II Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama. They are currently 12th in the nation and eagerly await the start of the new season in October.
